Description:

This project is no longer available to be seen by the public. Formerly known as FarmTogether, Mapletree Adventure is a no-loss yield farming RPG in which a player will cultivate a farm of crops for a chance to enter a tournament to win NFT tokens. This game is a 2D style mimicking the style found in older pixel art games. My team developed the game for the 2020 Chainlink Hackathon. The project is under development, and has been rebranded to Mapletree Adventure. It received three awards in the Hackathon and led to our acceptance into the CryptoChicks incubator. This project was what jumpstarted the startup company known as OpenDive.

Duties / Personal Contributions:

  • Designed Level for trading post

  • Designed Farming / movement gameplay

  • Programmed character animations

  • 2D Artist for Trading post, wishing well, and vegetables

  • Designed UI for the Interior of the Trading post.

Process

UI Designer

One of my roles as designer was UI design, specifically for the Tradin' Post.

The Tradin' post is where people would mint their yield and get their payouts, so it was necessary for a simple and easy to follow design.

Level Design

I was also in charge of creating the map area for the path that leads to the Tradin' post. The map is designed to push the player directly to the Tradin' Post, but also give a few off shoots for the map to expand from.

One other thing that I added to this scene was the Wishing Well, which we intended to have the ability of drawing a special NFT once per tournament.

Animator

Another duty handed to me was to animate our sprites in the game engine. For the Sprites we had, I added animations for holding things, running, walking, and picking up objects. This also includes the animation versions of the character facing the front, back, left, and right.

Pixel Artist

Another job that I took a roll in helping with is the designing of some of the pixel art.

We wanted to bring the nostalgia of Stardew Valley to the game.  Via the top-down 2D pixel-art farm aesthetic. This decision guided my designs such as the Tradin' Post which holds elements designed to remind one of the houses in Stardew Valley. This also goes for the crop assets that I also designed.
